BARRA GRANDE, A BIG SURPRISE
Clocks
in Bahia show another time : all the time in the world. It is not
different in Barra Grande. The small and peaceful village is the
main tourism center of the Peninsula of Maraú, situated in
Camamu's Bay, one of the prettiest bays of the country.
Barra Grande is a simple people's place, exuberant landscapes and
quiet beaches. It offers good restaurants, little pubs, sweet shops
, pancake shops, and ice-cream parlors during high season. And,
at night, you provide for the climate: fun with your friends or
romance under the moonshine.
FASCINATING ROUTE
Starting from Barra Grande you can explore Maraú's Peninsula
and its 40 beaches km, coconut trees, natural swimming pools and
fresh water ponds.
The first stop may be at Taipus de Fora, one of the prettiest beaches
of Brazil*, with 20.000 m2 of clear waters and gigantic coral reefs
. When the tide is low , you can go diving in the natural swimming
pools full of colored fishes.
For the fresh water lovers, there are two great tour options: Lagoa
Azul ( Blue Pond ) and Cassange's Pond, separated from the sea by
a streak of sand and coconut trees , whose view you can enjoy ,
entirely, from Morro Bela Vista ( Beautiful View Hill) . And, besides
the beautiful landscape, you can still get delighted with a famous
typical dish: the octopus “ pastel ”(pie).
Another option is to go along Camamu's Bay and visit Cachoeira de
Tremembé (Waterfall), where falls of water of a rare beauty
provide for a different show: the encounter of the river with the
sea. Or to go on a tour by the mangroves , fishermen ‘s villages
or on the several islands that beautify the third Brazil's largest
bay: Pedra Furada, Campinho, Sapinho, only to quote a few ones.
And to end , it is worth climbing Morro do Farol (Lighthouse Hill
) and enjoy the panoramic view of all Maraú's Peninsula (
indigenous name Mayrahú, which means “sunshine at dawn”
) .
